Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 25, 2026

Mobile Computers is a personal collection website about UMPCs, Pocket PCs, handheld PCs, palmtops, and other portable computers. This policy explains what information mobilecomputers.net collects, why it is used, and the choices available to visitors.

Information collected

Contact messages

The Contact page asks for an email address and a message. The form also records the date and time, source page, IP address, browser user-agent string, submission status, and related technical details. The email address is used to reply. Messages are stored in the private WordPress administration area through Contact Form 7 and Flamingo. They are not added to a marketing list.

Site statistics

Mobile Computers uses WP Statistics for server-side audience measurement. It records the visitor’s IP address, approximate country, region, and city inferred from that address, pages viewed, time of access, referring source and allowed campaign or search parameters when present, and parsed browser, operating system, and device details. IP addresses are currently stored with the visitor record. WP Statistics does not place an analytics cookie in the visitor’s browser, and the site does not currently use Google Analytics.

Individual visitor records, including their stored IP addresses, and detailed visitor-to-page relationships older than 180 days are scheduled for deletion. Aggregate visit and page-view totals may be retained for longer so the site can compare activity over time.

Server and security logs

The web server records the IP address, date and time, requested URL, response status, amount of data sent, referring page, and browser user-agent string. These logs are used to operate the site, investigate errors, and prevent abuse. Normal web access logs are rotated for about 14 days. Security-blocking records may remain for about four weeks.

Search requests and URL parameters

Search terms entered in the archive search box become part of the requested URL. Search terms, referral parameters, and campaign parameters may therefore appear in server logs and site statistics. Do not enter private or sensitive information in the search box.

Cookies and similar technologies

Normal logged-out browsing does not currently require a site cookie. WordPress sets necessary test, authentication, and preference cookies for administrators who sign in. Public registration and comments are currently closed. WP Statistics measures visits on the server and does not use a visitor tracking cookie.

For a fuller explanation, read the Cookie Policy.

Advertising

The advertisement areas currently show placeholder images. Google AdSense and other advertising scripts are not active at the date of this policy.

If AdSense is enabled, Google and participating advertising vendors may use cookies, web beacons, IP addresses, or similar identifiers to serve and measure ads, including ads based on visits to this and other websites. Mobile Computers will update its disclosures, identify or link to the vendors then in use, and use a consent mechanism where required before enabling those advertising technologies. Visitors can learn how Google uses data on partner sites at Google’s partner-sites policy, manage personalized advertising at Google Ads Settings, and opt out of some participating vendors at YourAdChoices.

How information is used

  • To reply to contact messages.
  • To publish, maintain, and improve the collection website.
  • To understand which devices and pages visitors find useful.
  • To diagnose errors, protect the server, and prevent spam or abuse.
  • To meet legal obligations and enforce the site’s terms where necessary.

Legal bases where required

Where data-protection law requires a legal basis, contact information is processed to respond to the visitor’s request and for the legitimate interest of managing correspondence. Statistics and security records are processed for the legitimate interests of operating, protecting, and improving the site. Information may also be processed to meet a legal obligation. Advertising cookies will rely on consent in regions where consent is required.

Sharing and service providers

Mobile Computers does not sell contact messages or site-statistics records. Information may be processed by hosting, domain, security, backup, and site-administration providers as needed to operate the website. Contact records and statistics are stored in the site’s WordPress database. Site-owned images may be sent to the Smush image-optimization service; visitors cannot upload images through the public site.

Information may also be disclosed when required by law, to protect the site or another person, or as part of a lawful transfer of the website. If advertising is enabled later, the advertising disclosures above will apply.

Retention

Contact records are kept until they are no longer reasonably needed to answer the message, maintain a record of the correspondence, prevent abuse, or meet legal obligations. Server and detailed statistics retention are described above. Aggregate statistics may remain longer. Database backups may contain copies of these records until the backups are replaced or deleted.

Your choices and rights

You may ask for access to, correction of, or deletion of personal information associated with a contact message. Depending on the law that applies to you, additional rights may include restricting or objecting to processing and receiving a portable copy. Use the Contact page and include enough information to identify the relevant message. Identity may need to be verified before a request is completed.

Browser settings can block or delete cookies. Blocking necessary WordPress cookies can prevent administrator sign-in. Advertising choices will also be available through the consent tool and advertising-provider controls if advertising is enabled.

Security and legacy HTTP access

Administrative access is restricted and modern browsers are directed to HTTPS. To keep the archive readable on older computers, public pages can also be viewed over unencrypted HTTP. Information sent over HTTP can be read or changed in transit. Do not submit an email address, message, or other personal information over HTTP. Use the HTTPS version of the site in a browser that supports current encryption.

Children

This general-interest collection site is not directed to children under 13, and Mobile Computers does not knowingly collect personal information from children. A parent or guardian who believes a child submitted information may use the Contact page to request its removal.

External links

Articles may link to other websites. Those sites have their own privacy practices, and Mobile Computers does not control them.

Changes and contact

This policy will be updated when the site’s data practices change. The date at the top identifies the current version. Questions or privacy requests can be sent through the Contact page.
